Hello, I’m Yas Fani!
Hello! My name is Yas, I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 121075). I have worked with children aged 4-12, teens, young adults, and families in both an educational and therapeutic setting for six years. I am originally from Shiraz, Iran, and I came to the United States in 2004 with my family. I obtained both my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology as well as my Master of Science Counseling from San Diego State University.
Between living and working in Mexico City as an elementary school teacher and working at the Children & Adolescent Mental Health Program through the Union of Pan Asian Communities (UPAC CMH), I came to specialize in helping culturally and linguistically diverse families. I love helping kiddos to build upon their existing strengths and empowering parents and caregivers to provide a safe and loving environment for their children.
In my free time, I love to travel, enjoy the outdoors, spend time with friends and family, and dance. My favorite kinds of dancing are hip hop and shuffling. I use these to express positive energy and relieve stress.
How I Can Help
As an immigrant from Iran who has lived the most formative years of her life in San Diego and Mexico City, I understand the importance of cultural sensitivity and open-mindedness. Because cultures adapt and change, I am invested in helping you examine the role of cultural differences and the impact of cultural, social, and political forces in your own life/family dynamics.
As a therapist, I aspire to create a safe and collaborative space for you and your family that makes you feel heard and able to carry out conversations about less commonly discussed mental health and family challenges. I look forward to meeting you, and it would be my honor to partake in your path to healing.
I am thrilled to be part of a collaborative and supportive team at Family Connections Therapy because they are welcoming and have their clients’ best interests at heart. Their support allows me to empower my clients to better cope with challenging life situations and become healthier individuals.
